Rosacea

Rosacea is a benign, chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting the face in men and women of all ages. It manifests as reddish, sometimes flaky patches but also as swelling of the face and small inflammatory lumps and pustules. The cause of rosacea is not known.

Depending on the severity of the disease, either cosmetic, medical or photodynamic modalities are employed.

In principle, patients should avoid known triggers causing sudden-onset facial reddening or general vascular dilation (e.g., alcohol, spicy food, hot drinks, sauna visits, etc.) and skin irritations caused by irritant facial care products.
